The Great Cake Fiasco

For Alex's baptism, I wanted the giveaways for the godparents to be unique and "practical" - something other than the usual figurines and mugs. Not that I don't like the nice souvenirs some parents give out, it's just that I don't think any of the godparents would display anything with my son's face on it, kasi syempre most of them have kiddies of their own (pamangkin, kapatid, etc).

So I thought, why not give out something they can eat?? Chocolates or cakes, dba? I researched sa forums and I narrowed down my options to cupcakes and mini cakes - labas na sa budget yung big-ass cakes. There were two cake makers that were pretty popular - french kiss pastries and cake crafts (Ana Baluyut).

Since mas maraming mention kay Miss Ana, I contacted her and asked for her prices. Ok naman so I said fine, I'll order 10 mini cakes and emailed her my design ideas. She replied with her bank account. No hassle na for me kasi I didn't have time talaga to meet with her and discuss cake matters.

A week before the baptism, I contacted her again, having deposited the payment, I wanted to know kung pano yung delivery. I kept on mentioning yung delivery charges even sa emails. No reply. The day before the binyag, I texted again. Sabi niya akala nya daw for pick-up. So fine, I asked Mark to go pick up the cakes ng umaga, before pumunta ng church.

Nung morning, nag text si Miss Ana asking, "For girl ba itong cakes? Para lang sa color ng ribbon" Whaaat? dun pa lang nag panic na ako. Sabi ko na for boy sya. No reply. Nung nakuha na ni Mark, tumawag sya sa akin. I asked kung ano itsura nung cake, he said, they're pretty. PRETTY is not a word I would use for a boy's cake.

When he got home, feeling ko masusuka ako sa inis. Pink and yellow yung cakes. Meron pang flowers on top. At naka pink headband yung baby. DAMN IT! Nung nilabas ko sa plastic yung iba pang cakes, I found out na yung isang pink cake, decapitated yung character, tanggal yung ulo. And we couldn't put the head back 0n so kinain na lang ni Mark.

I texted Miss Ana that I liked the topper of the cake, kasi in fairness cute yung baby. Too bad na it was pink and had flowers. She replied na "Oo nga e. sori ha. thought it was for girl kc. Di ko na napalitan when u said pang boy pala."

Beyond badtrip. And kung hindi ko pa minention, hindi man lang sya mag-aapologize. Honestly, I was sooo disappointed. I mean, fine. I wasn't able to meet up with her pero I emailed naman my design concept. And kung hindi sya sure, she could have texted me. I know it wasn't a very pricey order. I'm sure she's used to moms ordering cakes worth big bucks talaga. Pero I paid good money for it. And I sooo wanted the cakes to look great kasi it's for Alex.

And when the godparents tasted the cake, hindi rin sila impressed. Mas ok pa talaga yung feedback that I got for the cupcakes. Haaaaay.

From now on, I'll get all my cakes from French Kiss Pastries. They're super nice and very accommodating. And the cuppies tasted really nice.
